Season Two Ep 7 stills

I was truly debating whether I should post the new stills of Ep 7 because... I don't want to change the image of young Ōdanna-sama showered in sakura petals...for I think hands down that's one of the most beautiful shots that S2 managed to produce!

However, since Ep 7 has really nice stills as well (which also includes one still of young Ōdanna-sama under a camphor tree), I thought I'd just post this short article then. It's basically just my interpretation on how the story would unfold. However, it also makes me wonder about the length of this S2. I mean, we're at Ep 7 already, and if we only have one cour of 12 episodes... how do they pack Vol 8 then? Does it mean that we will have one cour but a bit longer than 12-13 episodes...?

Edit: We will have 12 episodes for S2, as confirmed here (in Japanese). It means the last five episodes will be super packed, because I don't think they're extending the story or leaving it to hang on Ep 12. I mean, if they plan to do that, it would be better to just make S2 covering Vol 6, 7 and half of Vol 8, right?

Edit 14 Nov'25: Nope, it's unlikely that S2 will end with the novel Vol 10. We're moving at a normal speed of anime now with Ep 5-7, hence it's more likely that S2 will end with Vol 8. Also, I've written a review of Ep 7 here.

Anyway, for those who were wondering where to find Tōyama Nao's music, I was able to get the five of them in iMusic. I made a short explanation about the five songs as an edit at the end of Ep 6 review.

Anyway, let's move on to Ep 7 stills chronologically as per Kakuriyo-Anime. I think most scenes are from Vol 7 Ch 6 and Vol 7 Ch 7.

First,  we will have Hatori having dinner at the Nighthawk as per Vol 7 Ch 6. Our gorgeous Tengu will have borsch soup with piroshki meat pie.

This is where we will hear Hatori yapping about Zakuro, who will hopefully trigger Aoi's jealousy. Yeah, bring it on!!!

(ooh! It means that we will have a flashback of Ōdanna-sama laughing together with Zakuro then! That would gaslight Aoi if her imagination is running wild like that!)

Then we will have the shot of young Ōdanna-sama under a tree, which I think is camphor based on Byakuya's Reminiscence. It means that we will have a few minutes of Byakuya reminiscing about his past, which I think is a great chapter, despite it being very short. OMG, it also means we will hear the young Setsu speaking as he invited Byakuya to join his Tenjin-ya team! Oh my...

Here we will see Byakuya's past with his everlasting wife Suzume, a young lady from the Muromachi Period. OMG, look at how gorgeous Byakuya's smile here! He actually could smile!

And no, I am not complaining about Suzume's emon this time. Muromachi kimono does not have emon (or, does not show the nape) the way the current kimono (starting from the late Edo Period) is worn... I.e., Suzume's kimono is drawn correctly here.

Then we have a shot of Aoi getting worried about something. No, it's not about her incorrectly-drawn emon... (gah!!! But it can be, right!!!). Instead, I think it's related to either Takechiyo-sama's situation or Ōdanna-sama's. At any rate, this scene might be in the Nui-no-in Mansion.

Then we have the Three Musketeers deciding to infiltrate the Imperial Palace through the secret passage at the camphor tree, which used to be located at Byakuya's and Suzume's old house. I think this shot below shows them when they are already in the elevator going up to the Palace.

How do I know? Because I've been transcribing Vol 7 Ch 7, but since I do that at a slower-than-snail pace, I haven't even done a third of the whole chapter...

But from what I know, once they arrived at the Palace, the Three Musketeers split up: Aoi and Sasuke-kun trying to find Takechiyo (to Uber-food the macaroon), while Byakuya will be heading towards the King's chamber to give a major lecture of the year.

Then we are at an unknown territory for me.

It seems Aoi and Sasuke-kun is trying to sneak into the kitchen (or sneak through the kitchen)... and then they would sneak through a scene where three ladies wearing the Qing Dynasty qizhuang. Looks neat... so... it means that ayakashi folks also exist in China/Manchuria yeah? I mean, it makes sense. I'd love to see other ayakashi from, say, Europe, as well...

The Manchurian ladies don't look too happy with their meals, though. Just give them to me, Ladies! I will finish them in one go!

Anyway, since we usually don't have the end scene published in advance, I guess Ep 7 will end with the Three Musketeers finding themselves in front of the King, with Raijū whispering lethal nonsense to his ears...

One thing for sure... the animation seems to be okay... though it remains to be seen once we see the whole Ep 7.

Until Thursday then, my friends!

Edit 13 Nov 2025:

I just finished S2E7. I don't see how we can cramp the rest of Vol 7 with Volumes 8-10 in just five more episodes. Is S2 going to be in two cours? The DVD is released in Jan'26, which made me think we only have one cour. I have asked Gonzo about it, but I don't think we will get an answer.

If we are actually having two cours, it's such a waste opportunity to cramp Vol 6 like what we have so far... I.e., skipping the first half of Vol 6 thus missing the orchard autumn date between Aoi and Ōdanna-sama, the boys talk with Ginji and Akatsuki at least, etc.

Also, I have to check Vol 7 regarding the Manchurian ladies; apparently they are the Palace's ladies in waiting. Thus, my review for S2E7 might be a bit later today.

Grazie!

Wow... it's really 1 cour :")

"No, it's not about her incorrectly-drawn emon... (gah!!! But it can be, right!!!)." HAHAHAHA another one bites the dust. Hello fashion police?!! tHIS RIGht hERE! Well, it could be that Aoi is so skinny, the kimono is super freaking thick and we are omnipotent viewers who can see the entirety of her kimono :D

Can't wait to hear Aoi's jealousy. Also, Byakuya's wife is so pretty? Yayyy Byakuya's backstory time! (maybe more like a halftime) We do love Odanna-sama's childlike look and his innocent eyes. Again, such a gentle-oni :")

"(to Uber-food the macaroon)" LMAO, looks like the Kakuriyo world is super modern??

A bit surpised to see some ancient chinese ladies here? Wait what's the timeline of this story again? Ain't nobody wearing that in this modern era except if there's a special occassion? So they must be ancient ladies.

"with Raijū whispering lethal nonsense to his ears" Please get this ayakashi some help. He needs therapy. He's just a mean old ayakashi whose boredom causes massive chaos to everyone -_- Please develop some nicer hobbies dude

Yeah... I now hope they wrap up in 1 cour instead of waiting for another seven years for the 2nd cour...

Hahaha, sorry, didn't mean to do fashion policing, but the wrong way of drawing kimono really irks me. It's a symbol of the illustrators not having the right quality control for the Japanese elements, and I will stand by my nagging for that. Some Japanese viewers have also stated that the kimonos sometimes are drawn incorrectly, and it almost turned them off of Season 2... because it doesn't feel Japanese enough (and yes, one of the reasons is because some illustrators are not Japanese. It's fine I guess as long as we have some Japanese illustrators and/or quality controller because... Kakuriyo's setting is a classical Japanese setting). I understand it's hard for some of us who do not grow in that culture, but I definitely understand them, hence my nagging...

But yes, Ōdanna-sama's eyes are gorgeous... it took me time to get used to his red eyes, but I do find them gorgeous now...

Timeline is current time. It's just in Kakuriyo they like to dress up the ancient way (up to Edo period at least), so I take it other ayakashi in other countries are having similar tastes as well...

Yeah, Raijū needs help big time, or BIG kick instead!

Thank you so much for the link! I read it and I don't think it means the series will end before Vol 10 ends. The article asked the main cast what they want to see in 7 years' time. Konishi-san said that he wanted the original story (the complete one) re-enacted (this one should've told us how redacted Season 2 is). Toki-san (Ginji) wanted to have Vol 13 made into an OVA (I think it's a great idea!). Toyama wants to have a sequel within 7 years, and Toki-san hoped it would be done before 7 years. But they were not talking about this season's story unfinished by the end.

Ciò che mi incuriosisce è la nuova immagine di Aoi e Odanna-sama che nemmeno il cast aveva visto prima dell'evento. Chissà se si tratta di una foto del loro matrimonio...

What intrigues me is the new image of Aoi and Odanna-sama that even the cast hadn't seen before the event. I wonder if it's a picture from their wedding...

Hello again, I'm re-reading the article. Because Ep 7 pace is very slow, I wonder if your interpretation is correct. I hope if we have Cour 2, we don't have to wait for 7 years for that...
