Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi Vol 12 (story by Yūma Midori, art by Laruha)  Apologies for the veeeery looooong hiatus. I didn't even make time to wish everyone Happy New Year, but I hope everyone has been having a lovely year so far. I know the world can be a messy place, but I hope all of you are doing well.  It's been more than two years since I promised to translate the table of content for Vol 12... but I finally got it here. Below is the list of chapters for the Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi novel Volume 12 that I translated from the Kadokawa site . I will add links to my translations for Vol 12 whenever I finish each chapter/section.  Meanwhile, news from the translating desk: I'm still working on Vol 7 Ch 6, but since it has no Ōdanna-sama, I have to say I am lacking the motivation I need to move on with that chapter. I'm still working on it though, cos it has important stuff there. However, to break the hiatus further, I think we all deserve some Aoi-Ōdanna moments. Therefore,...

Volume 5 List of Chapters

Image
Volume 5 cover, art by Laruha, story by Yūma Midori There’s no translation update this week, but I’m working on Vol 9 Ch 2 (where Ōdanna finally told Aoi about some very important information). It’s a long chapter, so I need to split it into two instalments. Fingers crossed I can finish part 1 around Sunday 21 March or so.  To fill in the time, below is the list of chapters for the Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi novel Volume 5, which is also the last volume which has been depicted in the anime. I translated only one of them (Intermission 2 about Raijū vs Ōdanna), while the other two translated chapters were by Cherry Lining (which was translated from a Mandarin source).  For Volumes 3 and 4 fan-translations, please check and support Rolypolyredbeanbun's  Wordpress site  here.  Volume  5: あやかしお宿に美味い肴あります Delicious tapas^ are served at the Inn for the Spirits (I translated 肴 ‘sakana’ as ‘tapas’ because it actually means snacks served with alcoholic drinks in Japanese ...

Vol 9 of the novel, story by Yūma Midori, art by Laruha Below is the list of chapters for the Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi novel Volume 9. Volume  title: あやかしお宿のお弁当をあなたに “The Ayakashi Inn Bento Boxes for You” Description:  Aoi wandered in Kakuriyo from one place to another in search of Tenjin-ya’s Ōdanna.  Guided by Ōgondōji, Aoi arrived at the Bunmon of the North-western Land and was finally reunited with Ōdanna. Despite having become a fugitive, Ōdanna looked the same as always. The two of them spent brief yet calm days together. Nevertheless, since Aoi wanted to know the reason behind Ōdanna’s disappearance, his relationship with Grandpa Shirō and the real intention of the ayakashi who once saved her from hunger, Ōdanna made Aoi a proposition: “I’ll tell you the truth one by one in exchange for a bento box”. Thus, Aoi found the answer to one question. Table of Contents  (click the links...

Novel Vol 5 Intermission 2 (Raijū vs Ōdanna)

Image
Anime Ep 26, Ōdanna vs Raijū In Vol 7 Ch 2 , we finally learned the primary reason for Raijū usurping Ōdanna’s “throne” at Tenjin-ya. However, I believe that it’s not Raijū’s only reason for doing so. He also wants to take over Ōdanna’s role in Tenjin-ya because he personally hates the Kijin, perhaps primarily for threatening him in Ep 26 of anime about the Thunder Beast’s treatment of Aoi.  Therefore, I’m backtracking a quite bit to understand the feud between Raijū and Ōdanna. I found that Raijū actually narrated the novel Vol 5 Intermission 2, and this is the scene after he realised that Umibōzu was not going to wreak havoc; that Aoi & team has successfully entertained the Umibōzu. Although the anime of course depicted this scene (thus we know the existence of this interaction between the two VIPs), the anime didn’t go into details of their conversations. After reading Vol 5 Intermission 2, I think it’s worth back-tracking to understand the whole Raijū-Ōdanna dynamics. After...

My immediate plan for translations

Image
My complete Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi collection (incl. the Gaiden) Don’t panic. I’m not abandoning the ship!  No way. I love the Kakuriyo novel so much that I wish I’m paid to work on the translations, so that I can dedicate my time to fully translate the volumes in earnest. But I have no required skills nor certificates for that, hence what I can do is just this fan-translating…

Kakuriyo Novel Volumes 7-11 Heavy Spoilers

Image
A part of my Kakuriyo novel collection: Volumes 7-10.  This post contains HEAVY spoilers. You’ve been warned.  I’m at the moment translating Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi Vol 7 Ch 1 , following on the surprising news from Raijū in Vol 6 Ch 10 . There is no Ōdanna-sama in Vol 7 Ch 1 because of what happened in Vol 6 Ch 10, but we do have Aoi feeling his loss (which is great from the viewpoint of story development, but it’s still painful). In the same chapter, one of my 2nd most favourite characters, i.e. Byakuya-san (yep, now I actually have Byakuya and Hatori competing with Ginji for the runner-up in my heart), is in charge of the move to rescue Ōdanna and Tenjin-ya. Byakuya is actually going to be very active in this quest, hence he’s going to be a very close ally of Aoi’s. Surprising, really, because he was very cold when we first met him… (but then we realised he was a cat-lover, and I always forgive cat-lovers…).
