Where is Aoi’s house in Japan?

Image
The shrine where Aoi 'first' met Ōdanna-sama in Ep 1 of the anime ( source ) Within a few hours, I am going to post Vol 12 Ch 13 translation about the night when Ōdanna-sama spent the night at Aoi’s place. However, this chapter also has some interesting tidbits that may give clues to the location of Aoi’s house, such that I originally wrote a short paragraph in the footnote of my translation about it. However, the post ended up being several paragraphs long. というわけで, I decided to post it as a separate, short post. Vol 12 (p137) gave me the first hint that Aoi’s home is in Kitakyushu (North Kyushu) Japan. Back in Vol 9 Ch 2 , Aoi told Setsu that she studied the World Civilisation as a student of Literature Studies. Now, there is a university in Kitakyushu called (yep, you got it!) the University of Kitakyushu, complete with a Faculty of Humanities, Dept. of Comparative Cultures . It sounds like what Aoi would study, so I think this is where she would study in the real world. The...

Updates and recap of the rest of Volume 10

Byakuya is one of my favourite characters, and he's prominent in Vol 7 Ch 4 ( Source ) It was still 19 December 2021 when I started writing this post, and it was a year ago on 19 Dec 2020 that I decided to make this blog to celebrate the beautiful writing that is Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi. Unexpectedly, the blog has slowly but surely attracted readers from around the world. Visitors from the United States, the Philippines and Indonesia are the big three visitors, followed by Russia, Malaysia, Brazil, the Netherlands, Italy, Mexico and Australia. I have made sure that my own visits are not counted in the blog, hence Australian visitors should truly reflect the trend that there are many readers in Australia who follow the Kakuriyo story. Nevertheless, we have other readers coming from other countries as well: Singapore, India, Canada, the UK, Vietnam, Germany, Poland, Thailand, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Spain, Italy, etc. I even had visitors from the Dominican Republic, South Africa, Moro...

Novel Vol 7 Ch 3 summary (Aoi’s cooking class)

Image
Takechiyo-sama, art by Laruha (taken from Laruha's art book, sourced from this site ) As per my recent post , I will jump-translate to Volume 8 Epilogue due to my limited time (and TBH, my impatience to understand what happens with Ōdanna-sama – partly because I miss him so much!). But beforehand, I’d like to summarise Vol 7 Ch 3 so that people are not wondering why I summarise this chapter, instead of properly translating it (aside from the possible copyright issues…). By the way, as a reference, this chapter is 53 pages long. The title is 料理嫌いな御子 , which I translate as “A Picky-eater Royal Child”. So, in Vol 7 Ch 2 , Aoi was having a serious heart-to-heart chat with Ritsuko-san in the Nui-no-In residence. During that talk, Ritsuko-san adviced Aoi to use her mansion as the headquarters for their mission to rescue Ōdanna. Afterwards, Aoi went back to Seikamaru and Kimon. However, since Aoi sees the merit of Ritsuko-san’s advice, she then stayed at the Nui-no-In residence once her f...

Kakuriyo Novel Volumes 7-11 Heavy Spoilers

Image
A part of my Kakuriyo novel collection: Volumes 7-10.  This post contains HEAVY spoilers. You’ve been warned.  I’m at the moment translating Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi Vol 7 Ch 1 , following on the surprising news from Raijū in Vol 6 Ch 10 . There is no Ōdanna-sama in Vol 7 Ch 1 because of what happened in Vol 6 Ch 10, but we do have Aoi feeling his loss (which is great from the viewpoint of story development, but it’s still painful). In the same chapter, one of my 2nd most favourite characters, i.e. Byakuya-san (yep, now I actually have Byakuya and Hatori competing with Ginji for the runner-up in my heart), is in charge of the move to rescue Ōdanna and Tenjin-ya. Byakuya is actually going to be very active in this quest, hence he’s going to be a very close ally of Aoi’s. Surprising, really, because he was very cold when we first met him… (but then we realised he was a cat-lover, and I always forgive cat-lovers…).

Kakuriyo volumes 6-11 summary… and a reflection

Image
Ōdanna & Aoi, art by Laruha This post contains the summary of Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi volumes 6-11 (Vol 11 is the Gaiden) per Amazon Japan. SPOILERS of course, so don't read it if you don’t want to know how the Kakuriyo stories continue. The summary does spill the bean of a very important aspect of Ōdanna and Aoi. However, the descriptions don’t spoil you that deep, because you still won’t know some mundane and important things, e.g. Ōdanna’s favourite food, his real name, and the reason for the events that take place in Vol 7-10. Oh, and you won't know whether Ōdanna would kiss Aoi or not, and if he would, when. Beforehand though, I’d like to make a short observation about some Kakuriyo haters. Perhaps “hate” is too strong a word, but I cannot help using that word whenever I come across some blogs/websites that consistently shred Kakuriyo to pieces. I won’t name the blogs here, but if you google “Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi”, it’s likely you’ll find 2-3 blogs that constantly...
