あやかしお宿の勝負めし出します
“I’m serving dishes that will determine our inn’s victory”
Description
Aoi manages a diner at Tenjin-ya, a well-established inn operated by the spirits. After the Autumn Festival ended with thriving sales, Aoi saw Ōdanna off to the Kakuriyo capital of Yōto. Later at home, in front of Aoi and friends who were waiting for Ōdanna’s return, the large ayakashi Raijū, who held a grudge against Tenjin-ya, appeared. Raijū had a sinister announcement to make: that the Oni King Ōdanna is never to return and Raijū is the new Great Master. The biggest crisis in the entirety of Tenjin-ya’s history! Ginji and all employees are united and make a move. And then, in order to find Ōdanna, Aoi entertains guests with her food stall onboard of the Yōto-bound touring air ship.

Thank you very much for reading and the comment. I still need about one month to finish Vol 9 Ch 7 and another month for Vol 10 Ch 5. So I suppose... I can start working on Vol 7 Ch 4 in August...
But I will be away for the field work in September-November, so I might be slower. I may need to work on the summary of Vol 7 Ch 4 first, just so that we know what happens in that chapter, while I keep on translating whenever I can.

Even though it has been a bit confusing at times to find all the links, I am so glad I found your translations. I am a beginner in learning nihongo so I, possibly, understand how difficult it can be and extremely time-consuming it can be. Because I am such a beginner, I tried doing one page of my favorite anime, and it took like several hours and even then I wouldn't have known if I got it right if I didn't already have the English version to compare it. Also, I didn't really get it right.... Eventually I hope to be able to read Japanese but right now I currently only pick up certain words.

"I tried doing one page of my favorite anime" -- did you mean you tried to read a Japanese manga page? Unless you turn on the Japanese caption for the Japanese-voiced anime...?
Anyway, with any language, I find constant practice is the best way to go, hence as you have been doing, i've been watching anime to train my ears. Duolingo and Italki lessons help a lot too. But certainly, for reading and writing, translating Kakuriyo has been very helpful in improving my Japanese from the reading and writing sense.

As for the links, if you mean how to find the translations in this blog, the best way is to use the pages that I've put on top of the blog. Those pages (like the one you wrote the comment in just now) will take you to the associated chapters. Granted, i've ignored volume 7 for a good while now in favour of knowing what happens to Ōdanna-sama, but after vol 10 ch 5 that I'm currently transcribing, I should be able to get back to vol 7 ch 4.

I'm still working on Vol 7 Ch 4... it takes a while to do because of the holiday season n family commitment (as well as my work deadline). I don't think I can finish it by end of Jan as I expected, but fingers crossed we have something by mid Feb to read... sorry for the wait and do keep visiting!
I still have deadlines along the month of April, so haven't been able to progress with vol 7 ch 4 novel. But it will be done, for sure! I should be able to resume translation in late April. Thank you for being so patient... ^_^
I'm also not sure when Season 2 is coming, but I trust it will come. I have been watching other anime lately, but Kakuriyo definitely ranks very high to me; it's still my all-time favourite for anime produced in the 21st CE.
So sorry for the sloooow update, but Kakuriyo is in my mind, and I miss Ōdanna-sama too! Fingers crossed I have more time to translate one of these nights in between preparing my teaching materials. I managed to get some pages done two weeks ago but then I got a bit ill (not covid, thank God...). I'm better now, so I hope to pick up speed.

I think though, when it translated to the international audience, it got a bit 'drowned' in the 'cooler' action-oriented anime. However, judging from the messages in Tumblr, I do think Kakuriyo has quite a bit of fan-base. The lack of references post-southern land story made some people thought less of the anime, because it kind of anti-climax, not knowing that the Southern Land story (Ginji-arc) is just half of the whole 10-volume novel set...

I have to agree with you and there are so many new and ongoing animes but somehow Kakuriyo just creates a special place that makes fans want to find out more. It really got me hooked and I spent days reading your translated Kakuriyo (which we all greatly appreciate)! And Ōdanna-sama has such an endearing personality. I sincerely hope that I get to see the progression of Tenji-ya folks in anime.
Ah, interestingly I like that new characters are introduced and the development of the Kakuriyo world and of course, through your translations, I get to see the other lands too and it just goes to show how far-sighted the author is when creating the story. (disclaimer, I'm new to anime but I have seen some anime that uses similar main characters and setting but different "events" for each episode to develop the characters. Nothing wrong but it's just different when the author puts in efforts to connect the dots and create a whole new world).
I'm sure you have already been such a great help to all the non-Japanese fans who are dying to know what happens next.

It is actually true! The light novel came first... then the ANIME and then the manga. That shows how important this work is for the Japanese audience. However, since the light novel is not yet translated, it's hard for international audience to truly appreciate this story. I think the appreciation grew once the first two anime episodes finished (because we can see Ōdanna-sama's previously veiled kindness there, and Aoi is made of sterner materials, she's not a damsel in distress, but she's kind too, etc etc etc).
Truly appreciate you reading my translations for days... I remember I cried when I translated some chapters, particularly when we learned about Ōdanna-sama's true past... Yuma Midori was really good at weaving injustice towards the indigenous tribes in her story...
You're right that some anime productions "recycled" similar main characters, but Kakuriyo seems to manage to avoid that. It might help that the authoress herself is a female, hence she really wrote to the largely untouched mature female readers and watchers.

I'm at the moment clearing my deck from my deadlines, so that fingers crossed late next week I can work on the translation of vol 7 ch 5 again. I've finished transcribing from Kanji kana to document, and now I just need to translate the JP sentences to Eng. Fingers crossed finished in 2-3 weeks time! Thank you!
Yeah, I am behind my real life schedule at the moment, that it's hard to find enough time to finish the translation. I'm so close to finishing, but I still have 5 A4 pages to translate and some deadlines this week... I keep saying this, and I feel bad about it, but I'm still as much committed as when I started this blog to provide fan-translations. Just, real life and work get in the way...
Fingers crossed I'm more effective with my time so that I can work on the translation again this week.
