Novel Vol 9 Prologue (The Kind Ayakashi)

Image
The kind ayakashi (from Kakuriyo Fandom ) As per my recent post , I have jump-translated Vol 8 Epilogue which depicts a conversation between Ōgondōji and Ōdanna, narrated by Ōdanna-sama. Now, I have translated Vol 9 Prologue as a continuation of Vol 8 Epilogue. I will return to translate Vol 7 Ch 4 in early-mid April  June (2021, that is). Volume 9 chapter list is here . To read my translation in other languages, check this tips . There is no title for this prologue (it’s not even labelled as a prologue per se), but I titled it as “The Kind Ayakashi”). MAJOR SPOILERS, so be forewarned.  Please refrain from posting my translations elsewhere. If you need to quote it, please acknowledge my site for the quote, because translating from Japanese hardcopy texts to English is a really hard work... I will delete this translation when there is an indication that the novel will be translated into English and I will replace it with the summary of the chapter.  Meanwhile, thank you for reading!  -

Volume 9 List of Chapters

Vol 9 of the novel, story by Yūma Midori, art by Laruha Below is the list of chapters for the Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi novel Volume 9. I will add links to my translations for Vol 9 whenever I finish each chapter/section. Volume  title: あやかしお宿のお弁当をあなたに “The Ayakashi Inn Bento Boxes for You” Description:  Aoi wandered in Kakuriyo from one place to another in search of Tenjin-ya’s Ōdanna.  Guided by Ōgondōji, Aoi arrived at the Bunmon of the North-western Land and was finally reunited with Ōdanna. Despite having become a fugitive, Ōdanna looked the same as always. The two of them spent brief yet calm days together. Nevertheless, since Aoi wanted to know the reason behind Ōdanna’s disappearance, his relationship with Grandpa Shirō and the real intention of the ayakashi who once saved her from hunger, Ōdanna made Aoi a proposition: “I’ll tell you the truth one by one in exchange for a bento box”. Thus, Aoi found the answer to one question. Table of Contents  (click the links when applicable to

Novel Vol 8 Epilogue (Ōgondōji and Ōdanna)

The majestic Ōdanna-sama, whom I'm sure many of us miss... (art by Laruha) In Vol 7 Ch 2 , we have learned about what happened to Ōdanna from Ritsuko-san. There are 8 more chapters in Vol 7 and 12 chapters in Vol 8 before we can learn about Ōdanna’s situation from his perspective. Thus, as per my recent post , I have jump-translated Volume 8 Epilogue which depicts a conversation between Ōgondōji and Ōdanna, narrated by Ōdanna-sama. However, particularly for those who prefer not to jump-read, I have summarised Vol 7 Ch 3 here . I will return to translate Vol 7 Ch 4 in early-mid April  June (2021, that is). To see Volume 8 chapter list, click here . To read my translation in other languages, check this tips . To give a bit of context, I have included the excerpt of the last bit of Vol 8 Ch 7 where Ōgondōji picked up Aoi to meet Ōdanna. MAJOR SPOILERS of course, due to the jumping, so, once again, feel free to skip this chapter and the subsequent chapters. I’ll see you again in mid-Ap

Novel Vol 7 Ch 3 summary (Aoi’s cooking class)

Image
Takechiyo-sama, art by Laruha (taken from Laruha's art book, sourced from this site ) As per my recent post , I will jump-translate to Volume 8 Epilogue due to my limited time (and TBH, my impatience to understand what happens with Ōdanna-sama – partly because I miss him so much!). But beforehand, I’d like to summarise Vol 7 Ch 3 so that people are not wondering why I summarise this chapter, instead of properly translating it (aside from the possible copyright issues…). By the way, as a reference, this chapter is 53 pages long. The title is 料理嫌いな御子 , which I translate as “A Picky-eater Royal Child”. So, in Vol 7 Ch 2 , Aoi was having a serious heart-to-heart chat with Ritsuko-san in the Nui-no-In residence. During that talk, Ritsuko-san adviced Aoi to use her mansion as the headquarters for their mission to rescue Ōdanna. Afterwards, Aoi went back to Seikamaru and Kimon. However, since Aoi sees the merit of Ritsuko-san’s advice, she then stayed at the Nui-no-In residence once her f

Novel Vol 5 Intermission 2 (Raijū vs Ōdanna)

Image
Anime Ep 26, Ōdanna vs Raijū In Vol 7 Ch 2 , we finally learned the primary reason for Raijū usurping Ōdanna’s “throne” at Tenjin-ya. However, I believe that it’s not Raijū’s only reason for doing so. He also wants to take over Ōdanna’s role in Tenjin-ya because he personally hates the Kijin, perhaps primarily for threatening him in Ep 26 of anime about the Thunder Beast’s treatment of Aoi.  Therefore, I’m backtracking a quite bit to understand the feud between Raijū and Ōdanna. I found that Raijū actually narrated the novel Vol 5 Intermission 2, and this is the scene after he realised that Umibōzu was not going to wreak havoc; that Aoi & team has successfully entertained the Umibōzu. Although the anime of course depicted this scene (thus we know the existence of this interaction between the two VIPs), the anime didn’t go into details of their conversations. After reading Vol 5 Intermission 2, I think it’s worth back-tracking to understand the whole Raijū-Ōdanna dynamics. After thi

My immediate plan for translations

Image
My complete Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi collection (incl. the Gaiden) Don’t panic. I’m not abandoning the ship!  No way. I love the Kakuriyo novel so much that I wish I’m paid to work on the translations, so that I can dedicate my time to fully translate the volumes in earnest. But I have no required skills nor certificates for that, hence what I can do is just this fan-translating…

Volume 8 List of Chapters

The novel Vol 8, story by Yūma Midori, artwork by Laruha Below is the list of chapters for the Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi novel Volume 8. I will add links to my translations for Vol 8 whenever I finish each chapter/section. Click here for the  Chapter Index  of the novel volumes 6 onwards.  Volume  8 あやかしお宿が町おこしします “I Will Revitalise Another Inn for the Spirits” Description Aoi manages a diner at Tenjin-ya, a well-established inn operated by the spirits. While visiting Yōto in search of the missing Ōdanna, she learns about Ōdanna’s past and the underlying cuisine that defines the Kakuriyo tradition. What can she do for her cooking, then? Considering all these, Aoi went to the Northern Land to request their cooperation in recovering Ōdanna. Waiting for her in the beautiful yet secluded Snow Country is delicious, unknown local specialties and a reunion with a person she misses! And then, in return for a cooperation with Tenjin-ya, Aoi is asked to produce a tourism specialty for the revival of
