Updates and recap of the rest of Volume 10
Byakuya is one of my favourite characters, and he's prominent in Vol 7 Ch 4 (Source) |
It was still 19 December 2021 when I started writing this post, and it was a year ago on 19 Dec 2020 that I decided to make this blog to celebrate the beautiful writing that is Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi. Unexpectedly, the blog has slowly but surely attracted readers from around the world. Visitors from the United States, the Philippines and Indonesia are the big three visitors, followed by Russia, Malaysia, Brazil, the Netherlands, Italy, Mexico and Australia. I have made sure that my own visits are not counted in the blog, hence Australian visitors should truly reflect the trend that there are many readers in Australia who follow the Kakuriyo story. Nevertheless, we have other readers coming from other countries as well: Singapore, India, Canada, the UK, Vietnam, Germany, Poland, Thailand, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Spain, Italy, etc. I even had visitors from the Dominican Republic, South Africa, Morocco, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran and Egypt, which makes me feel honoured that somehow, perhaps my translations could make their days a bit happier…
Now, I did promise you that I would upload Vol 7 Ch 4 before Christmas (this year, of course). However, it’s unlikely that I could meet that deadline. I have real world deadlines which I apparently couldn’t finish earlier… plus it’s holiday season hence I’m trying to meet family and friends… In addition, Ch 4 is 60 novel pages (that’s 30 pages A4 size), which would take me at least… a full month just to transcribe it. Realistically, I could only post Ch 4 by late Jan or early February 2022. Gomen ne…
I am determined to get Ch 4 out though. We will have Byakuya telling Aoi about Ōdanna-sama’s past, though won’t be complete because Byakuya didn’t know too much other than the real identity of Ōdanna’s. Still, it’s enough to make Aoi realise the pain that Ōdanna-sama had been going through. We also have some Byakuya-centred chapters in Vol 7, hence I’m definitely going to translate them. There may be some passages that I will skip, particularly if it only involves Aoi cooking (unless it’s about some washoku recipe that I think I can make as well, haha!), so that I can speed up the translations of more important chapters. I will also summarise some chapters, instead of translating them (like Vol 7 Ch 3).
However, from now on, it will be consecutive translations, instead of jump-translation.
Anyway, so it will be some time before you read a new chapter (albeit from Vol 7), but I’m still on this train. To help some readers and myself who are missing the beloved Kakuriyo characters, I am giving you a summary of what happens after Vol 10 Ch 5, i.e. after Aoi and Ōdanna-sama march on towards his freedom. Naturally, I should give you spoilers tags as follows:

The next chapter after Ch 5 is narrated by Byakuya (hence it’s an intermission, actually). However, this intermission is about 30 novel pages long, hence it’s quite long. It evolves around Byakuya and Ginji as the Waka-danna of Tenjin-ya trying to convince the Council of Hachiyō to keep Ōdanna-sama in his current position as Tenjin-ya’s master. The chapter started with Byakuya remembering how he asked Aoi why she wanted to rescue the Ōdanna, and Aoi answered it clearly: because she loved the Master. For that alone, Byakuya (as any good father would) was determined to win back Ōdanna’s position and good name. However, at first, their attempt was almost in vain because Raijū has indeed kept a good reign of the Hachiyō and also the ‘young’ King who was also present at the Assembly (I said ‘young’ because the King is ‘only’ 200 years old, and that’s young in the Kakuriyo standard). I forgot which Hachiyō still saw him as an enemy to destroy at the beginning, but I think the Eastern Land Hachiyō was one of them. Surprisingly, it seems Zakuro (the South Eastern Land Hachiyō has had a change of heart, and it seems she was already pro-Ōdanna in this chapter. It might be due to Aoi convincing her in the earlier part of vol 10. Kurogai Shogun (Setsu’s former university friend) is also a cross-bencher already at this point (IIRC Kurogai was already pro-Ōdanna at the start of Vol 10). However, it seems we still had many Hachiyō against returning Ōdanna to his rightful position and the King wasn’t helping either.
Anyway, when everything was almost at naught…
Ōdanna-sama entered the meeting room so casually with Aoi on his side (well, the Kamaitachi Sasuke-kun and Hanzō-san had cleared up all obstacles for them). And thus starts Chapter 6.
It was quite a roller-coaster chapter, this Ch 6, for several reasons. First, all the Hachiyō were so surprised to see Setsu emerging alive (you guys, some of you actually consented in killing him! I won’t forget that!!). Second, Aoi just realised who the King was:
SPOILERS
The King was none other than the guy with purple-pink hair and eyes whom Aoi served burgers back in Vol 7 Ch 1. I thought he was Takechiyo’s dad… but he was actually the King himself!
SPOILERS
Third: well, just the way the chapter evolved in general. The main reason why the King and the Hachiyō agreed to seal Setsu back underground is because of his setsuki ability: i.e. he is able to absorb the miasma (jyaki 邪気) seeping up from the underground. Without the setsuki to absorb the miasma, ‘normal’ ayakashi like, say, the King himself, wouldn’t be able to live in Kakuriyo. Of course their plan is down cruel to begin with, regardless the fact that some setsuki did kill other ayakashi during the war (some setsuki were also killed by other ayakashi anyway, it was called ‘war’ for a reason…). But anyway, this miasma absorption ability of the setsuki was exactly the ace card that Raijū was using. He knew he couldn’t really jail Setsu for crime, for Setsu was just an infant when the war erupted. Setsu had no hands in the war at all, hence he couldn’t be jailed for that. However, using Setsu as a miasma absorption tool fits the narrative of ‘rescuing Kakuriyo’, hence the King even agreed to it.
Yet, this is where Raijū’s miscalculation was. He didn’t know that Setsu has lost his psychic essence, the core that gave him the special miasma absorption skill. Thus, Setsu told the Assembly about it, that he actually had given away his core to Aoi to save her life. Hence, Setsu could no longer absorb miasma. If he was placed for a prolonged period inside miasma, he would die much sooner than his fellow setsuki. Setsu also explained that he would have only 100 more years to live.
Setsu’s announcement of his own ‘disability’ (if that’s even a proper term here) shocked almost everyone, including Aoi (who never thought that Setsu would just narrate that very thoughtful episode in front of everyone). Even the potty-mouth Ranmaru was stunned at this revelation, particularly after learning that Setsu only had about 100 more years to live. Consequently, many Hachiyō (including Zakuro) expressed their concerns over Ōdanna-sama’s wellbeing (IIRC, some of his enemies were also swayed here, except for Raijū, of course). One Hachiyō (Kiyo, actually, Kasuga’s husband from the North) even commented in shock how short it was.
Naturally, Aoi was wracked again with guilt, because it was for her that Ōdanna-sama lost a majority of his lifespan. Knowing that his bride was stressed because of it, Setsu held her shoulders tightly and answered to Kiyo that Aoi’s home-made meals would lengthen his life a bit, so it shouldn’t be an issue. He then said that he would actually prefer to die before Aoi, because he didn’t want to have a short happiness with her while she lives, and then facing a long sorrow and loneliness after her passing. Setsu even broke down in tears in front of other Hachiyō, for he really didn’t want to imagine life without Aoi. It took Aoi some time to reassure him that she would not die easily, because it was Setsu himself who gave Aoi her extra life.
I actually was misty-eyed when reading this part… Setsu loves Aoi so much…
There’s another ramification of the disclosure of Setsu’s other best-kept secret (the other one that is already well-known is that he’s a jyaki 邪鬼 or a setsuki 刹鬼). This new ramification is that the King had a second thought. Before he fell into Raijū’s influence, the King was actually a wise ayakashi and he did look up at Ōdanna-sama like a younger brother to the big brother. Upon realising how Setsu actually almost sacrificed his life to rescue a mere human girl, the King realised that Setsu was a kind ayakashi after all. Then, at some point, Takechiyo came into the Assembly with Dr Saraku, pleading for the King’s wisdom. Saraku presented a sample (he was talking about it at the end of Vol 10 Ch 5) to the King, and that sample was actually an experiment (using Shizuna-chan’s medicine) to turn miasma into a solid entity that can vanish. At least, IIRC, that entity was able to be made to disappear without killing it. A non-violent solution to the miasma issue.
These whole things eventually made the King regretting his part in bringing Ōdanna-sama’s downfall and he even apologised to the Oni God. This crucial action also brought other Hachiyō who were still against Ōdanna-sama to at least be neutral to him again.
But of course it didn’t end happily that easily. Bristled by the King’s sudden change of heart, Raijū grabbed Aoi away from Ōdanna, saying that since Aoi has a setsuki core now, surely she can absorb the miasma, so let’s just seal her instead!
(I think there was a point in this chapter where Setsu stepped away from Aoi just to talk to the King, or Raijū was very swift in his action… either way, no one saw it coming).
Panic ensued, but Setsu managed to rescue his bride from Raijū. However, Raijū didn't give in; he injured the King and kidnapped Prince Takechiyo instead! More panic ensued, particularly when Raijū transformed himself as a giant beast. However, Ranmaru and Ginji (who at this point were best bros already) joined forces and managed to rescue Takechiyo by turning themselves into the giant red Komainu and the giant silver fox, respectively. The King himself was having trouble curing himself, but once he ate a dorayaki made by Aoi, he was able to heal himself quickly. Aoi didn’t bring the dorayaki to the Assembly btw; Zakuro did it for some reasons.
Anyway, the crucial chapter ended with the King banishing Raijū to another dimension. No ayakashi knows what dimension this is; even Ōdanna himself told Aoi that he didn’t know what awaits at the other dimension. Suffice to say, it scared Raijū so much that he begged Aoi’s help as his body is being swallowed by the dimensional portal. He said that she always helped ayakashi in need, so why not helping him? However, the girl was having none of it. She threw him her bento box, the one she used to pack a meal for Ōdanna-sama. The excited Raijū opened it, hoping that he would find some food that would energise him, hence helping him escaping the dimensional portal. Nevertheless, the bento box contained nothing there, because Setsu had eaten all food that Aoi cooked for him.
Thus, Raijū screaming in anger, for he was at the end tricked by another Tsubaki.
Aoi herself gleefully waved goodbye to Raijū as his body was swallowed by the dimensional portal. She said that she was Tsubaki Shirō’s granddaughter and an oni bride at that, and she’s proud of it.
However, there’s a plot hole that can be used for “The Return of Raijū” or so, if ever Gonzo wants to make Kakuriyo The Movie. The bento box that Aoi gave to Raijū was also swallowed by the dimensional portal. What if there is even one grain of rice left there? Or even a drop of sauce that contained the combination of Aoi’s and Setsu’s psychic powers? THAT would help Raijū to escape that dimension. And what if that dimension actually gave him more power because of the leftover in the bento box??? Also what the heck Aoi, wasn’t that bento box the first box that she gave to Ōdanna when they first met? Isn’t it a bento box to treasure then?? Why did she give Raijū – of all ayakashi – THAT box?! I guess she wasn’t really thinking back then…
Anyway, Chapter 7 wrapped up our friends’ adventure in Yōto by having a lot of nice ‘goodbye’s and ‘see you later’s. It was a heart-warming chapter, very similar to the end of Episode 26 of the anime. However, there is one important scene there, i.e. when Setsu declared to his friends that he and Aoi are going to be married. It was a rather funny scene because Setsu didn't consult with Aoi that he’d announce it there and then. Aoi found it a bit weird, but her reaction made Setsu thought that she changed her mind. Seeing his panic reaction, Aoi smiled and reassured him that she still wanted to marry him, she was just not expecting an announcement right away. Anyway, their airship (I think it was Orio-ya’s airship) sailed through the morning sky and they arrive back in the North Eastern Land as the sun rises.
Chapter 8 has life returning back to normal in Tenjin-ya. One day, the King, Takechiyo, Ritsuko-san and her husband Nui-no-uin dono came to Tenjin-ya for a feast. The day after, Aoi was providing Setsu some breakfast (it’s been their habit since they returned; Aoi feeding Setsu regularly, I mean), and they had some small and big chats. The small chat involves Aoi asking Setsu why he was so mean to her when she refused his marriage proposal, when she first arrived in Tenjin-ya. Flabbergasted and red-faced, Setsu replied that he was so shocked that Aoi refused his hands in marriage that he reacted like that. IIRC, the two ended up that chat in a giggle. Then Setsu asked Aoi a more important question:
Does Aoi wish to return to Utsushiyo for a while to finish her degree?
That question caught the girl by surprise. She thought that Setsu had stopped loving her, otherwise why would he suggest such a radical idea? She was in tears when Setsu explained: being his bride means that Aoi would dedicate her life 100% in Kakuriyo. Is she really ready to say goodbye to Utsushiyo? Sure they still can come and visit the normal world, but doesn't she have things she still want to do and finish doing in Utsushiyo?
Like, doesn’t she want to finish her university degree?
As per usual, Setsu’s calm explanation finally made sense for Aoi, and the girl calmed down. She promised that she’d think about it.
Chapter 9 has Zakuro visiting Tenjin-ya. Though there was a big tension and rivalry between her and Aoi in Vol 7-8, Zakuro came to Tenjin-ya this time as a friend. She somehow helped Aoi thinking of what the Utsushiyo girl really wants to do in life. Including, does she really want to let go of her Utsushiyo life just like that, without saying goodbye to people she knows there? Then, Aoi talked to Ginji, telling him how important he is in her life, how she will always be his friend etc. IIRC, Aoi also told Ginji about Setsu’s suggestion (that Aoi finishes her degree). At the end of the chapter, we see Aoi coming to Setsu’s office to tell him that she does want to finish her degree. As always, Setsu says, “I understand you, Aoi. Don’t worry about a thing here, just do your best.”
Chapter 10 opens with Aoi telling O-Ryō and Akatsuki (the two already dating at this point, btw) that she was returning to Utsushiyo to finish her degree, and in her absence, Ai-chan will take care of the Moonflower. O-Ryō and Akatsuki were gutted, but since Aoi promised that she would definitely go back, they eventually calmed down. Aoi finally returned to Utsushiyo with the magic cart, with all Tenjin-ya folks waving goodbyes in tears. At the back of the Tenjin-ya crew stood Ōdanna-sama, saying nothing, just mouthing “Do your best. Ganbatte oide.”
He puts one of his fingers on the corner of his mouth, mouthing,
“Do your best.”
With that, he sent me those magical words that have encouraged me thus far.
Then, still in Ch 10, the story jumps three years ahead, to the day of (or after) Aoi’s graduation. Aoi said goodbyes to his neighbours (since I was skim-reading, I didn’t get to understand how she explained her year of absence to his neighbours). Then Aoi came to Shirō’s grave, saying goodbye (or rather, see you again) to Suzuran. And I say ‘see you again’ because I think Suzuran was going to come to Kakuriyo for Aoi-Setsu’s wedding. In this scene, we learn about the many things that has happened in the last three years when Aoi was in Utsushiyo.
First, she and Setsu were still dating. Setsu regularly visited her in Utsushiyo and it seems their love was stronger than ever. The fact that Setsu regularly visited Aoi during her study is confirmed in Laruha's art book, for there is a short story there about one of the visits. Click here for my short post on this topic.
Also, O-Ryō and Akatsuki are already married. It seems the two had not had the reception or something or other; they were waiting to do that after Aoi’s wedding with Setsu.
Another important development is that it seems Aoi used her time in Utsushiyo not just to finish her university degree, but also to help bridging ayakashi folks in Utsushiyo. Something like, bringing those ayakashi back to Kakuriyo if they so wish to. But most definitely, Tenjin-ya seems to have develop itself as a hub that bridges the ayakashi folks of the two worlds.
Anyway, after saying ‘see you again’ to Suzuran and goodbye to Shirō, Aoi walked to the shrine torii gate to find Setsu waiting for her there. Dashing in a suit this time (instead of his usual kimono and haori), Setsu congratulated Aoi on her graduation (what, you didn’t attend the graduation ceremony my dear boy??). Then, they actually went to a local supermarket to shop for some o-miyage (souvenirs, for those not yet into anime or Japanese). When Setsu was examining a bottle of wine for Ginji, some girls Aoi knew from her college days saw Setsu and kyaa-ing, saying how Aoi’s boyfriend is so cool and he looks like a celebrity!
Aoi also looked at her boyfriend and realised again, yeah, he’s so damn cool. When Setsu realised she was looking at him in a particular way, he asked why, and she so casually told him that, “Oh no… I just thought that you look cool, Ōdanna-sama.”
Setsu, OTOH, was rather astonished to see Aoi praising at him like that, such that Aoi promised herself that she would praise him more often, for he actually often praises her.
Anyway, then our couple returned to Kakuriyo and Tenjin-ya. Happy to be back home, Aoi cried upon seeing her old friends, including Ginji, Byakuya, Dr Saraku, Shizuna and of course O-Ryō and Akatsuki. And then she holds Setsu’s hand tightly, and these are the last lines of Vol 10:
Right in front of Tenjin-ya, as I look up, I squeeze Ōdanna-sama’s hand tightly.
“Say, Setsu.”
“Oh, that’s rare of you to call me by my name, Aoi.”
“My cookings and I will make you happy, okay?”
“Hahahaha! Usually that should’ve been my line, shouldn't it…”
“You’ll also make me happy?”
“Of course, I swear. Aoi… will you be my bride?”
Please be happy.
Earlier, my grandfather Tsubaki Shirō, the very person who has turned this Kakuriyo upside down, has given me his final wish; that I would be happy. Now, that wish would surely be fulfilled in this world.
For, this evening, I will marry into a bed and breakfast for the spirits.
And I would be so happy if I can finally bring the last chapter of Vol 10 to you… but for now, a summary will have to do. And now, onwards back to Vol 7 Ch 4!
Oh, and may you have a blissful, merry, and restful Christmas 2021 and a happy, healthy and blissful new year of 2022…
_____どうか、幸せに。
Somehow, please be happy.

thanks a lot for your visits and comments, they add beauty to my day!
Unknown, yes I loved it too when I read the part where Setsu cried, hence I added it in the summary. It was very touching.
Kikay, yes, I'm so hoping that we will get Season 2 for the anime as well, our Kakuriyo friends definitely deserve it!
It was such a beautiful story 💕
I hope you can get all the rest you need and have a beautiful time with your loved ones. Happy holidays!!
Thank you so much for your visits and comment! Truly appreciate them...
As you can see, this post isn’t a translation post, it’s just updating what’s happening with the rest of Vol 10, but I hope it gives you some comfort and happiness...
Until vol 7 ch 4, see you later!
In Poland we have five volumes of manga (the next two volumes will be published in this year). That was my first meeting with "Kakuriyo...". I read the manga in two days ;) Next I watched the anime and... I felt thrilling emptiness ;)
I asked myself: how long will I have to wait for the final of this story? I counted the volumes of the light novel, compared it with the volumes of the manga published till now, the episodes of the anime and... I broke down ;)
So long to wait...
I wanted to know about Aoi's promise (the 3rd volume of the manga), who was the kind ayakashi, Odanna's favourite food, why marriage with human is so important to ayakashi, what will happen when the hairpin-flower fades.
I started looking for something about it on the Internet and I found your translation. Thank you!
I really appreciate your work! I found the answers to the questions I have written above this sentence (except one thing) and now I can sleep calmly ;D
I'm just wondering about the hairpin...I still don't know what will happen when it fades... Maybe the answer is in the untranslated chapters...
I'm waiting for your translation of the remaining chapters.
Greetings from Poland and thank you once more!
Sorry for my English. I'm still learning ;)
Yeah, I know right, we only have Eng ver of the manga till vol 6 now (vol 7 is delayed till March 2022)... and I haven't heard about any news to translate the light novel into English... (while some other works, lesser quality works, I should say, have gotten their novels translated into Eng!). That was the reason for my translating some chapters, because I think fans deserve to know what happens without having to wait for another 2-3 years!
Regarding the hairpin, it never fades. Ōdanna, the joker that he is, was joking when he said the petals would fade. At least in my understanding until reading the last chapter of Vol 10, the hairpin petals never fell. The flower has grown into a full bloom camellia (earlier, it was a camellia bud), and it always blooms since then. It has bloomed since Volume 8 (which I haven't translated, except for the Epilogue and the very very last page of Vol 8 Ch 8), and in Vol 9 Ōdanna noted almost in awe how the camellia has bloomed.
Anyway, I've started transcribing Vol 7 ch 4 again now, and it's been an interesting chapter so far with Byakuya and Raijū at the same time!
I hope you enjoy the translations here! Don't forget to read FTBC's translations of vol 6 ch 1-8 too, they are amazing too! The links are in the Chapter List of vol 6.
I just finished watching the series and looking forward to the next chapters since it's still not yet sure if there will be a new season. I'm glad that I've found your site and actually it's good that you've summarized since I'm also excited on what will happen between Aoi and Odanna Sama. 😂😂😂👀👀👀❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much! You're really great! Looking forward to the other chapters and other series! 🎉🎉🎉❤️❤️❤️
Btw, I'm just curious what happened to the camellia (hair accessory of Aoi). 😁
Thanks a lot for visiting and commenting, glad that you have found my blog!
As for the hair stick, I've answered that in my comment just before yours. I hope it answers your question, but if not, just let me know!
hugs,
Icha
Happy New Year!
I have a question about the story: why exactly human girls elevate the ayakashi's ranking?
Haha, TBH I also have no idea. It might be somewhere in vol 1-5 which I have not read thoroughly. Of course, it could just be a total plot to have a legit reason for Ōdanna to marry Aoi (though that's not why he'd do that), but as a plot reason, I have no idea at all. I'll definitely update you and other readers if and when I know the answer.
Thanks for the question n take care!
Anyway, I remember that episode. There's also another earlier episode when they talked about it, so I will also check the manga and the novel later.
thanks a heap, CatLady!
and yes, I hope we will get the light novel translated one day, I think this story is so beautiful and it's annoying actually that some lesser stories have been translated in the novel form, but not this one...
I admit I've been slow to translate vol 7 ch 4, but that's because I have a sewing project for my best friend that I've delayed for more than a year, and her birthday is coming soon. Hence I've been working on her dress. I should be able to finish the dress next week, and I should be able to pick up vol 7 ch 4 translation again. I've been missing Ōdanna and Aoi, actually, hence I'm overdue to meet them again! Fingers crossed I shall make a good progress in two weeks' time.
thanks a lot for the patience!
I really like this story but the anime have a big question in the ending. I rewatch the anime 3 times but the ending still big question for me lol. I love design for setsu black and red colour its so cool!!. And the MC so far so good not like tsundere or anything.
Im happy they love each other. But stil i hope we got season 2 or movie but in the romance part
Btw setsu have a long name or just setsu?
I love Setsu's black and red colour too, it really fits him somehow! Haha, Setsu might actually be a tsundere for Aoi until ep 2 of anime, before he realised he was a jerk for being mean to Aoi (he even admitted that in Vol 10 Ch 8 as I summarised above, but that was because he was surprised that Aoi rejected him).
Setsu's name is just that, Setsu 刹, but it was derived from his real clan's name Setsuki 刹鬼. In another on-yomi, it can be read as 'Satsu', which meant the central pillar of a pagoda. Since Setsu is very much the central pillar of Tenjin-ya, I'd say that name befits him very much...
https://jisho.org/search/刹
but oh man, since i have waited for new season (almost) 4 years ago, this post just makes me want it sooner 😭
its so sly for odanna to cry like that in front of the royalties and hachiyo 😭 AND THEY HAVE THE AUDACITY TO TURN THE PRECIOUS MAN INTO AIR PURIFIER SH*T?!?!?! I--
i just lost words of that sigghhhh. good thing that finally the king regained his wisdom. and raiju could cry over the empty bento box for all eternity, but if there would be some plot twist like you said to be a movie, it would be good too (as long as the end is good)
anyway thank you gain, Icha for your translation. your handlename is quite common here in my country (Indonesia) so it felt like im conversing to an old friend hehe
Hahaha! You made me laugh just now despite the gravity of the context when you said "AIR PURIFIER SH*T"! Never thought of translating it like that!
btw, have you been able to get a hold of manga vol 7? It has some sweet Setsu-Aoi moments...
and, not sure if I've declared it somewhere here (I'm sure I have... or was it in another blog of mine?)... but I'm actually an Indonesian. Hahaha! Yeah, my blog handle-name is a common ID name, eh! Ma kasih ya, udah datang ke sini. Mampir2 lagi ya!
Do they have the Kakuriyo manga sold in Indonesian bookstores like Gramedia, btw? I don't think so, last time I checked...
MISUH AKUTU GA TERIMA ODANNA DIJADIIN ALAT BEGITU WOYY 😭😭😭 jahat banget emang raiju pengen kucubit ginjalnya.
yes i have read some chapters in vol 7 (from online translation) and hsgshgahagsgaha i cant get enough of it! i just cant wait for all the things happen in novel become manga. i will definitely make the series as my family heritage /lol.
sadly neither elex or m&c has licensed kakuriyo manga in here, so we won't find it in usual bookstore (gramedia/togamas/etc). maybe you can get the latest issue from periplus or kinokuniya. i just mentioned them (elex & m&c) yesterday after i finished rewatching it from muse asia, i hope either could consider to get the license for publishing the manga here. i even mentioned haru publisher which often licensed some LN from japan (yakumo, SAO, another, etc) to license the novel here. idk which one will release first, i will surely buy it!
in the meantime, i decide to collect the english mangas, buying them from periplus/other e commerce available. im just too crazy over this series 😂
Hahahaha!! Baru nih, baru, bisa dikopi...!!!
Iya nih, +62 tuh pembaca nomor 2 terbanyak ke blog ini... lucu aja, kebetulan aja sih... tapi lucu...
Yeah, I usually buy the manga from either Amazon AU or Fishpond AU here, they're pretty quick to arrive. That would be GREAT though if Indonesia can licence the NOVEL! That would be amazing! I'm sure ppl will read it!
So, Muse Asia, is that legal, or illegal? Cos I noticed that from Youtube, they're doing the Indo-sub for Kakuriyo anime, right? I wish Netflix would upload this series! I have the whole Blu-ray set, but it would be nice if more ppl watch this series!
Muse Indonesia is a legal anime distributor and i was reallllyyy happy that they decide to get kakuriyo license and airing them every night until last thursday, because kakuriyo finally got spotlight that they deserve! Before, I accidentally found teh aime in animax when i just idly watching tv in a hotel before my relative's wedding and got hooked up ever since (nonton di muse berati udah rewatch ke 3 apa 4 gitu ya :")
I really hope haru publisher could consider localise the novel because from i read through your and other translations, the novel had quite unique wordings and sentences, so i will surely collect them. but if its still in japanese ... i ecide to give up loool :"DD
"wkwk karena banyak yang nonton juga, apalagi karena muse indonesia kan kemarin premier tiap hari jam 19.30"
Oh I see... but actually, this blog has been receiving a lot of Indonesian visitors before Muse Indonesia premiered the Kakuriyo anime. But indeed, I think you're right, because of the Muse upload, visitors from Indonesia has made up the largest amount of visitors in the last 7 days. Yay for more Kakuriyo fans!
I hope any Indonesian publishers will purchase the licence for the novel indeed, it's such a beautiful novel, it needs to be read by many!
Ah, I actually watched the anime for the first time at Anime Planet, then I got hooked immediately. Now I have the Blu-ray, so I just watch it on TV without HDMI connection...
Yeah, IRL has been quite busy, but I've been able to transcribe a good few pages since yesterday. I still have 12 pages to transcribe, and then I can start translating the JP scripts to Eng. Fingers crossed I can start doing that from late next week. Vol 7 Ch 4 has more interesting background of Setsu from Byakuya (we've learned most of them from vol 9 though, but they are still interesting, given that they were told by Byakuya). Thanks again! Truly appreciate your comment!
Thanks a lot for your visits and question. Apologies for the late response, I was off the grid for work...
Your question was very good! There is no definitive visual of Ōdanna-sama in his jyaki form. However, the first opening song of the anime (Tomoshibi no mani-mani) has a scene where Ōdanna-sama went out of a fusuma-covered room to see Aoi who was standing on the veranda, and we can see that his shadow wasn’t the shadow of a normal oni. Rather, his shadow has long hair his hands have much longer claws. I think it would be the only hint of Ōdanna’s jyaki form. Also, we can imagine the jyaki who attacked Aoi in the Dragon Palace and the jyaki who attacked Shizuna, and combined them with the shadows of Ōdanna-sama’s. That would be his jyaki form, only with a much kinder expression, for he is innately a kind soul.
Hope it helps!
Your translations has been an immense joy to read and I definitely feel at peace now that I've gotten some closure.
Despite being a summary, it was so extremely well summarised that I could feel the stories and the scenes coming through vividly. Thank you for all that you do, even just staying on this train and answering our comments! I've learnt so much even from the conversations you've had with fellow commenters.
Kakuriyo has been such a lovely, underrated story that I know I'll be thinking about this for a long time.
I'm so grateful for you!
So sorry for the late reply, but thank you very much for the visits and comments! Yes... I am also at peace now that there's closure about Kakuriyo. It was such a relief when I was able to finish Vol 10 Ch 5 last year (where Aoi finally told Setsu her feelings), as well as the summary of the rest of Vol 10.
Now, please wait for perhaps 24 hours or so, because I have a short post that would make many fans happy, methinks. Jaa ne!
I'm still halfway in translating Vol 7 Ch 4, and I have some deadlines until next weekend. However, around 20 Sept I should be able to speed up the translation process, and fingers crossed can upload Vol 7 ch 4 by end of Sept. Send me good vibes and positive energy for that, yeah! Take care too!
Espero que hayas podido pasar una bonita navidad.
Por favor cuídese también. Gracias!
Thank you so much, Anne, for your visits and comment! As I type this, I'm in the middle of resuming my translation of vol 7 ch 5. I do have to go back to vol 7 because, otherwise we won't understand the whole process of Aoi accepting her own feelings to Ōdanna, but I think the process is worth it...
However, I'm so happy that I did decide to jump-translate, because there's no way I could have presented the rest of the storyline by December 2021 if I just translate vol 7 first systematically. As a freelancer, I've been lucky to have more work in 2022 and this year too, but it does mean that my translation time has been reduced. I'm still trying my best though!
Anyway, thank you again, and I hope I can finish vol 7 ch 5 in 2-3 weeks's time!
I just finished the anime in one sitting and was really devastated that it doesn't have any continuation or an English-translated novel. I even cried after watching the anime because of how good it really is. I wish I could just go into their world T_T. Setsu and Aoi's love is really unbreakable, (feeling envious)
But I'm really lucky and grateful that I found your translations!
Huhu my soul couldn't rest since I really wanted to see if they get together and I just finished reading the chapters and the summary that you made.
By the way! Just by reading the translated chapters and especially the summary! My mind was flashing scenes that were so vivid that I felt like I was watching the anime itself lmao. Your translations are really good!
I'm really really thankful! LIKE THIS MUCH! ヽ༼ ಠ益ಠ ༽ノ
Now my soul can finally rest....
...and hope that someday this series may have a continuation. (This series will certainly leave a scar on my heart)
I hope you're doing well! Please be safe and be in good health! ໒( ⇀ ‸ ↼ )७
Thank you so much for your sweet message; it made my day! Another reader has told me that she reached out to the publisher, asking for them to translate the light novel into English. Kadokawa (the publisher) said they were undecided, but if more fans reach out to them, they might consider translating the novel!
So sorry that I've been so busy that I haven't updated the next chapter. But I guess another reason is because the next chapter (or the rest of Vol 7, rather) has no Ōdanna-sama at all, thus I need to summon more motivations to resume my work. However, Hatori is in the next chapter I'm working on now, so I should preserver!
So, your message (and the messages of other fans lately) has given me the idea to translate a small chapter from Vol 12 about Aoi and Ōdanna-sama, just because I miss the two of them a lot. Please wait for it. It's not a big chapter, so I'll update you guys on the progress.
Thanks again and please tell your friends how awesome this series is! The more people watch the anime, the more likely Kadokawa is willing to translate the novel! Thanks!
