Season Two Ep 11 stills


S2E11 stills are out! It's centred around Kasuga and Kiyo, but we have Aoi, O-Ryō and Ginji in action as well, oh, and Sasuke-kun is back! Surely we will see our hunk Ranmaru as well, but I don't think this episode has anything Ōdanna-related. And for that, I think my least favourite animation studio New Animate Studio is not in charge of the animation, and we may actually have good full-frame shots and generally well-drawn visuals...

How sad is that, for us to have decent animation, we must have no Ōdanna-related scenes when he's displayed in full, not just in aural form or dream sequence...

I could be totally wrong and will eat my hat on Thursday morning AEST, but I sadly think I am on the money here.

Okay, let's just look at the shots one by one. We first have Aoi and O-Ryō on the front cover (see above). Then we have Kasuga being happy. 




Is that because she loves the tiramisu? And that it reminds her of her happy escape time with Kiyo in our world Utsushiyo?



If she's happy because of the tiramisu, I can see why. Even it's "just" animation, the tiramisu looks super good here! And we might actually have a cooking video on tiramisu later!

Even O-Ryō approves of the tiramisu, and it's important, because she's practically the Kakuriyo food magazine editor here! 



We also have Sasuke-kun arriving to taste the tiramisu - well, and of course to provide more protection...

Because we know some people are trying to kill Kasuga and Kiyo, and it seems the situation is deemed serious enough to have Sasuke's presence. 




Next we have Kasuga transforming into her tanuki form, but since Aoi and O-Ryō didn't look alarmed, maybe Kasuga was just sleeping because she ate too much tiramisu? Who knows. I have no time to check Vol 8...

But...




Anyway, the shot above reminds me of the sakura petal shots between Byakuya and Ōdanna-sama. Is Koeda Animation back to animate this episode? Koeda Animation did a marvellous job animating Season 2 Ep 6.

Then we have Kasuga... unconscious. Did she just take a bullet for Kiyo??? FFFFF!!! Yes, see the blood?!?! Our little tanuki was shot!

How dare they!


Ginji, Aoi and O-Ryō might be chasing up the culprit here. I'd love to see O-Ryō in action again! The only two times I saw her in action was when she intentionally made a street in Yōto slippery, thus Aoi fell (S1E3) and when the yuki-onna helped Kasuga retrieving the silver bracelet back in S2E3. 

Oh, by the way, Ginji's form here is closer to his S1 Cour 2 form... so we might see the more Madara-like form this Thursday!

And a nice shot of O-Ryō again when she was about to beat up the culprit, perhaps.



Okay, so... we might have a wrap for the Northern Land episode this Thursday or early next week. Which means... we might have Vol 8 Epilogue for Ep 12 (animated by the sub-par New Animate Studio)... and a bit of Ōdanna-sama next week, who - for the love of all that is sacred - I hope is gorgeously animated, because we at least deserve as much...


Seriously, can we have a decent animation studio for the entirety of Cour 2 or Season 3, please? Get Koeda Animation and the studio that worked on Ep 8 or 9 for the job!

I concur that this animation is much better. I think on the whole I am happier with no Odanna-sama if they are just going to portray him the way they did. Only 2 more episodes- this one and the final one. I wonder if we will even get to the end of Volume 9?

Initially, my first reaction was shock and outrage, looking at poor little bleeding Kasuga. But crisis such as these often serve as a circuit breaker to remind us what is important to us, and what we should be doing. Hopefully Kiyo gets a jolt here!

Yeah, I much prefer that Gonzo regroup to put more $$ and efforts to return Ōdanna-sama to the S1 design than having a half-baked character design for the (hello) MAIN character!

And yes, poor Kasuga! I don't know the level of magic for tanuki, but surely those bullets could kill ayakashi? Looking forward to seeing them catching the bad guy!

"I wonder if we will even get to the end of Volume 9?" -- you mean to the end of Vol 8? I think so. It's weird not to wrap the Cour with Vol 8 Epilogue... or at least the Bunmon airship taking off with Aoi in it going to see our gorgeous oni...

Oddio, il primo video è fantastico! Certo, è un video realizzato dall'intelligenza artificiale, ma ben fatto. Non riesco a immaginare Yamazaki Kento nei panni di Odanna-sama, ma è comunque un ottimo video. Grazie!

Gli altri non sono in giapponese, quindi non li sento particolarmente, ma comunque complimenti a loro per aver realizzato quei video... grazie!

OMG, the first video is amazing! Sure, it's AI-made video, but well done. I cannot see Yamazaki Kento as Odanna-sama though, but a very good video nonetheless. Thank you!

Kakuriyo Novel Volumes 7-11 Heavy Spoilers

A part of my Kakuriyo novel collection: Volumes 7-10.  This post contains HEAVY spoilers. You’ve been warned.  I’m at the moment translating Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi Vol 7 Ch 1 , following on the surprising news from Raijū in Vol 6 Ch 10 . There is no Ōdanna-sama in Vol 7 Ch 1 because of what happened in Vol 6 Ch 10, but we do have Aoi feeling his loss (which is great from the viewpoint of story development, but it’s still painful). In the same chapter, one of my 2nd most favourite characters, i.e. Byakuya-san (yep, now I actually have Byakuya and Hatori competing with Ginji for the runner-up in my heart), is in charge of the move to rescue Ōdanna and Tenjin-ya. Byakuya is actually going to be very active in this quest, hence he’s going to be a very close ally of Aoi’s. Surprising, really, because he was very cold when we first met him… (but then we realised he was a cat-lover, and I always forgive cat-lovers…).

Kakuriyo volumes 6-11 summary… and a reflection

Ōdanna & Aoi, art by Laruha This post contains the summary of Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi volumes 6-11 (Vol 11 is the Gaiden) per Amazon Japan. SPOILERS of course, so don't read it if you don’t want to know how the Kakuriyo stories continue. The summary does spill the bean of a very important aspect of Ōdanna and Aoi. However, the descriptions don’t spoil you that deep, because you still won’t know some mundane and important things, e.g. Ōdanna’s favourite food, his real name, and the reason for the events that take place in Vol 7-10. Oh, and you won't know whether Ōdanna would kiss Aoi or not, and if he would, when. Beforehand though, I’d like to make a short observation about some Kakuriyo haters. Perhaps “hate” is too strong a word, but I cannot help using that word whenever I come across some blogs/websites that consistently shred Kakuriyo to pieces. Updates and recap of the rest of Volume 10

Byakuya is one of my favourite characters, and he's prominent in Vol 7 Ch 4 ( Source ) It was still 19 December 2021 when I started writing this post, and it was a year ago on 19 Dec 2020 that I decided to make this blog to celebrate the beautiful writing that is Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi. Unexpectedly, the blog has slowly but surely attracted readers from around the world. Visitors from the United States, the Philippines and Indonesia are the big three visitors, followed by Russia, Malaysia, Brazil, the Netherlands, Italy, Mexico and Australia. I have made sure that my own visits are not counted in the blog, hence Australian visitors should truly reflect the trend that there are many readers in Australia who follow the Kakuriyo story.
